Boost your career – further training to become a certified pump technician

The SPECK Pump Team discusses technical details relating to pump components in a workshop setting as part of a training programme for pump technicians.

Optimal training to meet the future challenges in pump technology as the key to attracting and retaining customers.

In line with the motto ‘Standing still is a step backwards’, it is more important than ever to engage in continuous professional development and stay up to date with the latest developments. Ongoing staff training is therefore essential if a company is to remain competitive and meet the demands of the market. That is why: professional development is not a one-way street. For this reason, Andreas Politaj, Sales Manager for Domestic and Industrial Technology, and Gunter Gammelin, Branch Manager in Hamburg, have decided to undertake further training to become ‘Pump Specialists’ and ‘Certified Energy Consultants for Pumps and Systems’.

Pumpenfachingenieur GmbH in Graz offers distance learning
courses leading to qualifications as a ‘Pump Specialist’ and a ‘Certified Energy Consultant for Pumps and Systems’, providing pump-specific specialist knowledge. It is an organisation that designs, organises and delivers the Pump Specialist Engineer course. The committee consists of renowned experts from the industry. It plays an advisory role in determining the course content and ensures the quality and up-to-date nature of the curriculum. The lecturers are drawn from the very best pump experts in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. They are distinguished by their many years’ experience in plant design or pump operation, enabling them to pass on their knowledge to the students. They are therefore always at the cutting edge.

All of
this was reason enough for Andreas Politaj and Gunter Gammelin to complete their studies at pump.ing, so that they could reap the benefits for themselves, for SPECK Pumps and their colleagues. After all:

Deepening their
existing knowledge was the top priority for both of them. Despite their existing expertise, accurately assessing the operational and service condition of a pump requires a significant amount of technical knowledge and operational experience, which can only be gained through years of practical work in the industry. Pump expertise, both theoretical and practical, is becoming increasingly important, as pump failures can, in the worst-case scenario, lead to plant shutdowns, which entail considerable costs. It is therefore essential to equip specialists with specialist knowledge of all aspects of pumps. And this is precisely where the Pump Technician qualification comes in.

This high-quality further training programme to become a Pump Technician, which carries an internationally recognised quality label and focuses on the practical industrial application of pumps, is structured into various modules and comprises a total of 400 hours, equivalent to approximately 14 months. The following subject areas are covered: an introduction to the fundamentals, the pump unit, the pump within the system, planning for various areas of application, standards and legislation, the market and the industry, as well as practical exercises and work placements.

The individual modules go into great depth, enabling participants to draw on a considerable wealth of knowledge. With applications across a wide range of client scenarios, targeted solutions to complex problems are developed. Extensive theoretical foundations thus become a valuable tool in practical application.

The Pump Engineer course teaches specialist knowledge on the optimal design and operation of pumps and systems. Andreas Politaj and Gunter Gammelin have acquired this knowledge and the ability to carry out energy consultations by being awarded the title of ‘Certified Energy Consultant for Pumps and Systems’. We all know how important the issue of energy costs and savings is. Only through optimal pump operation can many factors be improved, thereby avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.
