The Stuttgart-based Josef Wund Foundation launched the Wundine Swimming Academy educational project in 2021 with the aim of promoting swimming. According to statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than 230,000 people worldwide die from drowning every year. In Germany alone, according to the DLRG, an average of one person drowns every day, which is why swimming is of particular importance to society as a whole.

The project starts with the very youngest children and consists of two modules: ‘Wundine at School’, which provides additional swimming instructors for schools, and the ‘Wundine on Wheels’ swimming mobile.

The idea of using swimming containers on wheels is quite new, and ‘Wundine on Wheels’ was the first of its kind. The ‘Wundine’ swimming mobiles are fully equipped 13 m³ teaching pools on wheels, complete with changing rooms, toilet facilities and a hairdryer station. They enable thousands of children of nursery and primary school age, who have no access to water, to become accustomed to the water and learn basic swimming skills on site all year round at a comfortable water temperature of 31 °C.

The first ‘Wundine 1’ SchwimmMobil has been on tour since autumn 2022 and also made a stop in the Ahr Valley in 2023, where the 2021 floods had destroyed almost all the swimming pools. Since then, the ‘Wundine on Wheels’ fleet has been steadily expanded and improved due to high nationwide demand. ‘Wundine 3’ was unveiled at the Interbad trade fair in October 2024. From early 2025, four SchwimmMobiles will be deployed across Germany at various local authorities, schools and nursery schools for three months at a time.

SPECK Pumps is also one
of the project’s long-standing partners and supporters. Thanks to innovative swimming pool and pump technology – each of the new SchwimmMobiles is fitted with a BADU
Delta-MK Eco VS pump – the ‘Wundine on Wheels’ units meet the highest quality and hygiene standards.
