Whether it is a planned tank drainage, cleaning work or an unexpected water leak: in aquaculture facilities, it must be possible to drain water in a targeted manner. A suitably designed drainage system supports regular operational processes and is an important part of preventative measures against malfunctions. Freshwater, saline process water and water containing solids all place different demands on pump technology.
SPECK offers submersible pumps and plastic pumps with open impellers for this purpose. The selection depends on the water volume, delivery head, installation location and composition of the fluid being pumped. Specially adapted AK models are available for saline water. This allows the pump technology to be tailored to the drainage task and your facility’s emergency response plan.
Benefits of SPECK
Drain in a controlled manner. Convey in a manner appropriate to the medium. Take precautions against faults.

Technical Specifications
The appropriate drainage pump is selected on the basis of its flow rate, the nature of the water and the installation conditions.
Submersible pumps for shafts and collection tanks
The TOP 71 and TOP 72–80 series are fully submersible pumps designed for use with clear, turbid or slightly contaminated water containing no long-fibre particles.
| Technical Specifications | TOP 71 | TOP 72–80 |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum flow rate | 10 m³/h | 21.5 m³/h |
| Maximum head | 9 m | 19 m |
| Impeller passage | 10 mm | 10 mm |
| Maximum fluid temperature | 50 °C | 50 °C |
| Protection rating | IP68 | IP68 |
The maximum values are specific to the respective series and are not achieved simultaneously. The operating point on the characteristic curve of the selected model is decisive.
Plastic pump for saline wastewater
The BADU 21-80/33 G-AK OL is a dry-mounted plastic pump with an open impeller. It combines the pumping of contaminated water with an AK design optimised for salt water. Its suitability is assessed on the basis of the specific water composition and solids content.
Key technical data at 50 Hz:
- Standard suction design
- Maximum head: 15.5 m
- Power consumption P₁: 3.45 kW
- Motor power P₂: 3.00 kW
- Voltage: 3~ 400/230 V
- Protection class: IP55
The required flow rate is determined on the basis of the pump performance curve and the pressure losses in the connected pipework system.
Materials and sealing for saline water
For brackish and seawater, the pump materials and sealing design are jointly optimised to suit the salinity, temperature and other constituents of the water.
In the BADU 21-80/33 G-AK OL, the pump casing and impeller are made of reinforced plastics; the mechanical seal combines silicon carbide and Viton. The shaft does not come into contact with the pumped water. An intermediate lantern and a labyrinth disc separate the sealing area from the motor and keep any escaping fluid and crystallising salts away from the motor and bearings.
Solids and the fluid being conveyed
When selecting a pump, factors to consider include not only the volume of water but also the size, shape and concentration of the solids it contains. TOP submersible pumps are designed for slightly contaminated water without long-fibre particles. For coarser contaminants, a hydraulically designed system with an open impeller may be suitable.
Suitability for sludge, fibres or abrasive particles is assessed separately. An open impeller alone does not guarantee unrestricted compatibility with solids.
Control and integration into emergency operations
For water-level-dependent drainage tasks, TOP models in the WS version with a float-operated toggle switch are available.
Integration into an emergency response plan is planned for each individual system. This involves coordinating the pumping capacity, the detection of critical water levels, the alarm system and, where necessary, standby pumps. If the drainage system is required to function even during a power cut, a suitably designed emergency power supply forms part of the system design.
Equally, the discharge of the pumped water, access to the pumps and regular functional tests are taken into account.
