Continuous monitoring of water quality is part of everyday life at a public swimming pool. To ensure this, pool water must be reliably transported from the sampling point to the analysis system. The sample water pump handles this transport and supplies the analysis system with the required water.
With the BADU sampling pumps, SPECK offers solutions for a range of system configurations: from the self-priming BADU M1 to the controllable BADU M3 Eco Soft. The BADU M3 Eco Soft-AK is available for sampling water from saltwater and brine pools. Its design and sealing are tailored to the specific requirements of saline water.

Technical Specifications
The series, control system and materials are tailored to your measuring system and the on-site conditions.
Suitable pumps for sampling water
Various BADU models are available for pumping sample water:
- BADU M1: Self-priming sample water pump for continuous analysis, designed as a monobloc pump with an integrated fibre trap. This has a capacity of approximately 0.5 litres; the mesh size is approximately 2.8 × 2.8 millimetres.
- BADU M3 Eco Soft: Self-priming, adjustable sample water pump with adjustable power settings to suit the system requirements.
- BADU M3 Eco Soft-AK: Self-priming, controllable sample water pump for salt water and brine tanks. Features an integrated fibre trap, adapted seal materials and a structural separation between the seal chamber and the motor.
Control and integration into the plant control system
The BADU M3 Eco Soft and its AK version are fitted with a permanent magnet motor. Three programmes can be individually adjusted. Depending on the operating mode, the settings are determined by either the speed or the power.
The pump can be operated directly on the unit itself. For external control, potential-free contacts are available, as well as, alternatively, 0–10 V or 4–20 mA interfaces.
Connections and operating data
The following specifications apply to the BADU M3 Eco Soft and BADU M3 Eco Soft-AK, as stated in the pump data sheet:
| Characteristic | Specification |
|---|---|
| Mains connection | 1~ 230 V |
| Speed control range | 1,000–2,850 min⁻¹ |
| Suction connection | 32 mm |
| Discharge connection | 25 mm |
| Motor protection rating | IP55 |
| Maximum internal housing pressure | 2.5 bar |
The actual flow rate depends on the selected setting and the hydraulic conditions of the system.
Materials and sealing solutions for different water qualities
The BADU M3 Eco Soft features a polypropylene pump casing and an impeller made of glass-fibre-reinforced PPE. The connection components are made of PVC.
The BADU M3 Eco Soft-AK is designed for use in saltwater and brine pools. This version utilises silicon carbide and Viton as sealing materials. In addition, an intermediate lantern and a labyrinth disc separate the sealing chamber from the motor. This protects the motor and bearings from water ingress and crystallising salts.
The appropriate model is selected based on the salt content, the water temperature and other water characteristics.
Design of the measurement water transport system
Pipe length and diameter affect the required pump settings. For the BADU M3 Eco Soft, the pump data sheet specifies a maximum transit time of 30 seconds between the sampling point and the measuring cell.
The pump’s performance must therefore be set so that the sample water reaches the analysis point within this time. Suction conditions and protective measures at the sampling point must also be taken into account during planning and commissioning.
