Products

9 BADU Block Multi Mar

In Rottenmann, Styria, White Panther has been farming mountain prawns since 2019 – regionally, sustainably and far from the ocean. The challenge: robust seawater pumps that ensure consistent water quality round the clock. Nine BADU Block Multi Mar pumps from SPECK circulate up to 200 m³/h between the filter system and the rearing tanks.

Background

A prawn farm in the mountains

Sometimes chance writes the most wonderful stories: it was founder Ingrid Flick who came up with the idea of expanding the business to include a prawn farm and a wood gas power station. Today, the waste heat from the power station is used to continuously heat the tanks in which the mountain prawns swim.

Construction of the indoor prawn farm began in 2017, and since 2019 these premium crustaceans have been farmed there regionally and sustainably. The right technology plays a crucial role in ensuring the animals’ optimal development – it must guarantee consistently excellent water quality.

„For our prawn farm, we need robust and compact pumps that are suitable for aquaculture applications. The BADU Block Multi Mar from SPECK offers all these features – and at excellent value for money.“

Implementation

From egg to fully grown prawn

Each female lays up to 300,000 eggs; after around two weeks, these develop into post-larvae. Over several stages – from nursery tanks to grow-out tanks – the fish grow to around 30 grams in approximately four months. A special mixture of seawater and minerals is added to the water.

Uneaten feed and residues are collected mechanically, biologically filtered with the aid of microorganisms, and the purified water is returned to the tanks. This is a closed-loop system in which the pumping technology must constantly ensure stable conditions.

Technology and Products

Corrosion-resistant pumps for the salt water circuit

A total of nine BADU Block Multi Mar pumps – six of the 125/250 model and three of the 100/250 model – operate as saltwater circulation pumps between the filter system and the rearing tanks, circulating up to 200 m³/h. In this way, they maintain a constant, optimum water quality throughout the entire system. The pumps, which have been specially developed for aquaculture, are made from high-performance engineering plastics, are corrosion-resistant and impress with their low power consumption, high efficiency and extremely quiet operation.

Parties involved

Reaching our goal with the right partners

From the hatchery to the finished product, White Panther relies on sustainable technology – with SPECK as its pumping partner.

White Panther Produktion GmbH

Founded in 2017 in Rottenmann, Styria, White Panther operates a sustainable indoor aquaculture facility with a mission to farm prawns far from the ocean. With an annual production of around 60 tonnes, it is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. Since 2019, the company has also been producing post-larvae in its own hatchery for its own breeding programme and for sale.
