Because of the large, free transits of the various impeller geometries, untreated sewage with a high proportion of solid material can also be carried, such as waste water from swimming pools with long fibrous components e.g. hair. Three-phase asynchronous motors with a special shaft are used as drive motors. Depending on the pump design, these are suitable for assembly in dry locations or in areas covered by water or submerged. The motors set up in dry locations are designed as standard in efficiency class IE and the submersible motors are designed to efficiency grades in compliance with IE2.
